Day 43. Brandon to Clinton Mississippi. 21 miles!

Left the motel at 7:00 am this morning and started my walk. Brandon was a really nice and clean town from what I saw. It was a really nice walk too. I had a nice wide shoulder. As I walked I knew my front tire was low on air and every time I passed a tire place I didn't feel like stopping. I passed quite a few to. I also passed a neighborhood that had pink decorations out front for cancer awareness. How cool is that!

After Brandon came Pearl. It was a good walk still, the town wasn't as nice as Brandon was but it was okay. They both took hours to get through walking though. Just before reaching Jackson I stopped at a Denny's that was part of a truck stop. It took over 40 minutes to get my burger and fries. Then when I went to pay..there was a line and they ran out of  change...so that took another 10 minutes. At first I was thinking come on already...then I said God must want me to be held up.

Now the point of this is just before the city limits of Jackson I saw a used tire place and something said stop there. So I did...they were a little busy so I had to wait a few minutes. While waiting a gentleman came up to me and said that is great what your doing. I appreciate that. My...I am sorry but don't remember if it was a nephew or cousin was being buried today from suicide. I asked him his name and after getting air in my tires I left and said a prayer for him and the one's he left behind that have to deal with the pain of losing someone to such an illness. My thoughts and prayers are you all!

I believe I was held up at the restaurant for that reason and that is why I didn't stop anywhere else for the air. God had that planned out ahead of time!

So for about 5 days now I was warned about walking through Jackson by most everyone I talked to. They said I was crazy to walk through Jackson and should change my route. So guess what happened. NOTHING! I had a great walk with plenty of room. My biggest obstacle was avoiding broken beer bottles on the shoulders and sidewalks. I did not encounter any people besides the motorists passing by and most of them waved back when I would wave to them. I had prayed about going through there after all I heard...I guess my prayers worked because I had a long and pleasant walk through Jackson. Oh, and I encountered a gentleman riding a horse down the road.  He let me take a picture and said I could post it. Thank you sir.

After Jackson, I entered Clinton and the nice shoulder disappeared altogether forcing me to walk in the grass numerous times. I saw a Wal-Mart and decided to stop and get some OJ, bananas, and fruit cups with no sugar or sweetners added. And after dodging all that broken glass along they way...my tire goes flat inside Wal-Mart. I take the tube off and what did me in...a sand spur from walking in the grass. You just gotta laugh on that. The hole was so small I could not find it so I just went back and bought another new tube. That tube was only about 1 1/2 weeks old...go figure.

Well, I finally got to the motel...checked in and that's all I have to say....phew! Stay tuned for another adventure tomorrow.  God bless you all!
