The New Person!

The New Person

By Mike Pozzi

I’m feeling empty and I’m feeling sad,
I have no self esteem and it’s driving me mad.
It’s frustrating trying to fight it back,
But fight I must, just to stay on track.

The feelings come, and the feelings go,
It’s a horrible thing, and that I know.
I can be smiling, enjoying my day,
They’ll come out of nowhere and set up to stay.

Then someone asks, how are you today?
I think to myself, what should I say?
Should I really tell them, or just say okay?
I just say okay, and go solemnly on my way.

My thought patterns, they go haywire,
They are acting on there own, not of my desire.
I need better coping skills, yes,  that’s what I require.
I must trust in someone and explain the desire.

Hopefully they can help, but we must give the invitation!
Wouldn't it be nice to get out of this dreadful situation?

Just let it out and set it free,
make room for the person you really want to be!
Take off the shackles and the chains,
You will love the new person that remains!

The Stigma

We need to dismiss the stigma of mental health. In doing so, we ourselves must realize it is a condition that we must deal with. The symptoms do not define who we are, but something we must face and deal with.

We should not be afraid to talk about them or seek help for them. It takes a strong person to realize that help is needed, and a stronger person to seek that help, so in no way are we weak because we have a mental illness!

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's an illness we have, we are not the illness, and it is treatable, so seek out the information and act on it. There are people out there who care and are there to support us, take the step and reach out!
