Day 7 Road Trip 2015

We left Phenix City around 8:15 a.m. We did not get to see everyone we wanted to...but I tried!

My first stop was to see Steve up around Crawford, Alabama. Steve,  his son Steve Jr., brother Marshall, and father Joe stopped their work during my walk (they were installing a fence) to help me fix my cart which had it's second flat that day. They took right over and repaired the tire and put it back on. Marshall said a prayer for me and my journey. When I left..it felt like I was leaving family! Steve was the only one home this time around and it was a blessing to see and talk to him again! So grateful for all they did for me back then! God bless you all!

Steve, Joe, Marshall, and Steve Jr

From there we stopped in Tuskegee To check out the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic site! Some pics are posted at the end of this blog.

Our next stop was lunch at Jason's Deli in Montgomery, Alabama! We had the salad bar which seemed to be pretty fresh!

From there we headed into Mississippi to visit some people at the Jellystone Campground in Pelahatchie. And as par for the course the ones I stopped to see were off today ... I tried again!

After leaving the campground we headed to Vicksburg where we are spending the night at the Baymont Inn
and Suites.

In the morning we will cross the river into Louisiana!

That's all for now..good night and God bless...Mike!

Day 6 Road Trip 2015

Well..we left South Carolina in the late morning. Thank you Karen and Fred for your great hospitality. Thanks for letting me use your kitchen and letting me cook eggplant for you all. I enjoyed it...especially eating it..lol!

Our first stop was The Adrian Camp and Conference Center in Adrian, Georgia. My friends Jeff and Peggy Croft who are the administrators at the camp put me up for a night while on my walk. They purchased a wooden cross for me from a young man at their bible study...met me in the next town and brought me a bible, water, snacks and helped pay part of my next nights stay in Dublin,  Ga. They have been a true blessing and have kept in contact with me since my surgery...checking on my progress from time to time and praying for comfort and healing for me. It was so wonderful and a blessing to be able to visit with them again. Thank you Jeff and Peggy.

If anyone would like to donate to their mission at the camp go to their website and make a donation. I would appreciate it because they were so good to me.

We continued on following the route I had walked. Our next stop was at Lake Pines Campground In Columbus Georgia. I call Debi to see if she was available..but she had a prior engagement she could not get out of. I really wish we could have been able to meet with her again. Hopefully another time. God bless you Debi!
I forgot to mention we also stopped in Renolds, Ga. to see Faye who runs a Restaurant and motel there...but she too had left for the day so we moved on to Columbus.

We then crossed the river from Columbus into Phenix City, Alabama where we are spending the night at a very nice Super 8.

I did not post on the 5th day because I did not have enough signal...we just did a little shopping and I made some spicy Pablano stuffed peppers. I stuffed them with brown rice, mashed black beans and some feta cheese! I used hot salsa and spagetti sauce mixed for the gravy. It was very spicy...but very delicious!

Well until tomorrow...God bless and thank you for reading, Mike!

Day 4...Road Trip!

Today was a good day! We met up with our friend Selina for lunch! A special thank you for taking us to Laura's Tea Room in Ridgeway, S. C.

The food, staff and atmosphere was great! The upstairs Tea Room was awesome. I would recommend that place for coffee...many different tea's and a great light lunch. I had the Daisy...a salad with mixed greens, strawberry slices, pecans, and feta cheese and a slice of orange. It also comes with mandarin oranges but they were in light syrup...so I passed on them!

And later on in the late afternoon I made eggplant parmesan again...for me. I just love my own cooking...lol! This time I layered some brown rice in with it. And again just used fresh shaved parmesan and feta cheeses. I think I really like it with the brown rice...you should try it and let me know what you think! Oh yea...watermelon for dessert! ;-)

That's all for now...prayers and blessings your way...Mike!

Road trip...day 3!

Hello everyone!  Today was a rest day for me. I was pretty much in bed resting most of the day. Nothing bad...just a little tired so I rested.

As I was laying around I had said some prayers for the poor church members who were gunned down in Charleston. How very sad that there is so much hatred out there. But as someone who had walked from Sullivan's Island just east of Charleston .... to Ruston, Louisiana before my cancer was discovered ... there are a lot of wonderful,  wonderful people out there also. I had never run into anyone that gave me any trouble. I did run into a lot of beautiful God loving people though! :-)  Please pray for peace, comfort and healing for the family's and loved one's of those lost.

I also was thinking about all the people I met on my walk and was praying for them as I usually do. So many of them have deeply touched my heart ... it was such a blessing to be able to do that walk and to cross paths with all those that I had! Many of them inspired me..helped me out and brought comfort to my soul! When I departed from them ... it felt like I was leaving family behind! And there were even some I hadn't met but went out of their way to help me out. I just want everyone to know how grateful I was and still am! God bless you all!

And for those out there who are lost, bitter and mad at the world ... I pray that God will touch your heart and bring healing to your soul in Jesus's name ... Amen!

We aren't a race, color, or better than the next person ... we are all human and need to learn to love one another as such and have respect for each other! Now wouldn't that solve the world problems. Such a simple statement ... yet so hard to accomplish!

Blessings to all, Mike!

Day 2 Road Trip!

Today my wife, sister in law and I went shopping and ran some errands. I offered to make eggplant parmesan for supper and the offer was accepted.

I had fun cooking for everyone but had to take a few lay down breaks...but it all turned out well.

I made theirs the traditional way with  breading...but mine was gluten free of course. I do not  bread or egg my eggplant but fry in light oil or roast in the oven and then sauce and cheese mine. I am trying to cut down on cheese so I just use some feta and shaved parmesan...and quite frankly like it better that way.

Well, I had another blessed day...thank you Jesus! When I wake I like to thank Jesus for another new day. And when I go to bed I like to thank Him for helping make it through each day...a thankful day makes for a thankful heart! Blessings to you all!

Peace, Comfort and Healing to all those suffering from a mental or physical illness. May God surround you with the blood of Jesus and keep you in His protection. May the Holy Spirit touch your heart and guide you, give you strength and wisdom so you may be a testimony to God's Grace and Love...in Jesus's name I pray..Amen!

Road Trip!

I smell a road trip coming fast! I finished my 12 full treatments of chemo on the 1st of June. The last three really hit me hard..but we must push on! The tumor according to my last scan did not change much at all, they more less stayed stable. Which that in itself is a good thing...they could have grown! I will need to keep going to have maintenance chemo from now on to try and keep it at bay!

I told the doctor I really didn't want any more chemo, but that is my only option to keep the tumors from growing at this time. I also got 6 weeks off from chemo to recoup so we (my wife and I) are going to embark on a road trip.

We are going to visit with my wife's sister in S.C. then we are hoping to move on to Ruston, La. where by the Grace of God they discovered that my hemoglobin was only 6.1 hence the ER and admission to the hospital and finding the tumor. By the time I had my surgery it had spread to the liver making it stage 4. I then had the surgery to remove the tumor and a third of my colon. Then from there we shall see where are travels take us! Stayed tuned for updates and pictures.

I also have a facebook page that I will update on (footcruingamerica). Thank you all for reading my blog and I hope you will travel with me on my social network sites!

God bless you all! Have a blessed day!
