As I said yesterday I had to stay overnight at the Kangaroo Express. The whole Staff was great. They kept coming over and asking me if I was okay. And the girl that worked in the Churches Chicken part came over at the end of her shift to see if I was still okay and that she was leaving for the night. The night person was also checking on me making sure everything was okay. I gave him one of my cards and he said that it was a great thing I was doing. He had a personal story to tell. Thank you for sharing, thoughts and prayers to you!
Okay, now back to today. I left the Kangaroo Express at 7:00 am. Started my walk off with my left leg still swollen from the knee to the ankle, toes sore from having my sweaty socks and shoes on all night and shoulders and hips sore from the 45 lb. Backpack. After about an hour or so I kind of eased out of the pain. And concentrated more on the walk. Most of the road had little to no shoulder to walk on. Almost all the truckers made Sure they gave me plenty of room, no complaints about them. Now the cars, again today that was another story. I see this one car inching over little by little coming ever closer to my 1 1/2 foot shoulder. As she approaches I can see the infamous cell phone with her looking down at it. Just as I was ready to jump up with my 45 lb. Backpack on and do a forward flip over the roof of the car, like a ninja turtle she looked up and jerked the wheel. There were two of those today, and one or two that swerved towards me. People don't text and drive please!
Another thing I discovered was armidillo road kill is about the wosrt thing I've smelled. I passed about 20 dead one's on the side of the road today. One dead timber rattler, one dead copperhead and four other beyond recognition snakes. Nothing eventful really happened today, I did give out about 6-7 cards today, but they seemed disinterested. At least I am trying.
Met a gentleman by the road today standing at the end of his driveway. He asked where I was going and where I started. He said all I can offer you is something to eat, but after seeing all those armidillo, I declined, lol! He asked where I would sleep. I told him my daughter's got me a motel in Walterboro. He said that was good, he didn't want me not to have somewhere to go. He wanted their number to call them so they knew he talked to me and that I was okay. I told him I couldn't give out there number. But that was nice of him. I asked if he wanted his picture in my blog he said yes, let me get my girl. So I took there picture, he then asked me to take a picture of his pitbulls, so I did. His name was Donnie and hers was Sherry. Sherry was originally from Knoxville, Tn.
I made it into Walterboro around 1:20 and got to the motel little after 2 something. Who's being precise.
Okay, picture time for today. The pic of the road sign was my mother's name.
Hello it's me again Margaret! Nice write up Mike. Praying for your leg to go down, and things to get easier for you. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to hear about tomorrow. Prayers and love all around you!
ReplyDeleteFollowing on your blog and praying you are safe. I hate to hear that people are swerving towards you, what is wrong with people. Maybe if you elevate your leg when you are not walking might help the swelling. May God be your campanion on your journey.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading of your trip. I am proud of what you are doing. May god keep you safe. Know you are not alone, I believe your brother is walking with you. Richard Lear
ReplyDeleteSo glad for an update was again,,,worried hehe of course, well so glad you are doing better. Nice pictures and some nice people, there will always be spoil sports and doubters and those who know not what they do, can hurt your feelings or lack of doing something. Let's see just saw a snake show, you back away carefully and slowly to avoid a bite. They might try to chase you "rattlesnakes" but you can run faster then them, hmmm didn't mention 45lb backpack though hehe. Ok be safe. Deb
ReplyDeleteps: we all love you so take good care of yourself!!
Hope your leg is better today! Enjoy keeping up with you!
